20,000 Muntinlupa minors inoculated against Covid

Nearly 20,000 minors aged 12 to 17 have been vaccinated in Muntinlupa in almost one month, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

As of Nov. 23, according to the Muntinlupa COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac), a total of 19,836 minors have been vaccinated with the first dose.

The total is 36 percent of Muntinlupa’s estimated total population of 55,391 for 12 to 17 years old.

Among them, 705 have received their second dose, making them fully vaccinated. In total, 20,541 vaccine doses have been administered to minors since the city government started vaccinating them on Oct. 25.

By barangay, out of the 19,836 minor first-dose recipients, Putatan has the highest with 4,481 followed by Poblacion, 3,424; Tunasan, 3,097; Sucat, 2,258; Cupang, 2,118; Alabang, 2,020; Bayanan, 1,701; Buli, 322; and Ayala Alabang, 174. Non-residents who received the first dose totaled 241.

According to the city government, 35,122 minors aged 12 to 17 have registered for COVID-19 vaccination, or 63 percent of the target minor population.

Of them, 2,509, or seven percent, have comorbidities and are classified under Pediatric A3 group while 32,613, or 93 percent, have no comorbidities and are classified as “well children.”

According to the Department of Health, the comorbidities eligible for the Pediatric A3 vaccination are medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic/endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory diseases, renal disorders, hepatobiliary diseases and immunocompromised state due to disease or treatment.

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for use in people 12 years and above.

As of Nov. 24, Muntinlupa’s active COVID-19 cases totaled 52 including three new cases out of 27,599 total confirmed cases, 26,969 recoveries and 578 deaths.
